Wondering what our former PM is up to? It seems that Julia Gillard and partner Tim Mathieson have purchased a new 4-bed, 3-bath home in the top Adelaide coastal suburb of Brighton…
The former Prime Minister (Australia’s first female PM) is moving on from her humble brick home in Altona in the western suburbs of Melbourne, after her grander life in Australia’s top job and the heritage accommodation which came with it. She purchased the Altona house for $140,000 in 1998.
Her new home, closer to her family in Adelaide, was on the market for between $1.85m-$2.05m, and apparently sold for $1.8m. Read more about it – and see a picture of her former home – here. And learn more about beachside Brighton in South Australia.
Here’s the official blurb from Harris Real Estate:
How cool is this? Resort-style living & entertaining on 1284m2 with sea, sand & coffee just around the corner
Step straight into the pages of the glossies as the lucky new owners of this dreamily renovated bungalow, as featured in SA Life, Adelaide Matters and celebrity landscaper Jamie Durie’s Patio.
Add a fantastic location, just steps to the beach and Jetty Road’s cafe culture, also close to Westfield Marion, the new Aquatic Centre and schools including Westminster College and Brighton High for which it is zoned; and you won’t find a more idyllic family home anywhere.
All you need is a floaty caftan to fit right into your new lifestyle of private relaxation and seamless entertaining centred around schmick architectural additions, a sparkling in-ground pool and stunning outdoor kitchen.
Swim or simply unwind in the 12-person spa, grab a drink from the bar fridge and dance the night away on metres of beautiful Quantum Stone with surround sound to set the mood and lighting displays that will take your breath away.
Winner of a global award for Best Geometric Pool, the solar and gas-heated Freedom Pool also comes with a starting block and swim jets for your budding Olympians, and an in-floor filtration system that cleans the pool while you sleep.
Frameless bifold glass slides open to create a lovely big indoor-outdoor space, complete with an outdoor powder room and shower. Even with 100 guests and kids jumping in the pool, it never feels crowded.
With a commercial pizza oven, 9-burner barbecue, 2 bar fridges and a pull-out spray tap, the outdoor kitchen caters breezily to any number of family and friends. Cook the food you love to share here and in the much-featured main kitchen by Farquhar showcasing a lust-have range of glossy 2-pac storage and Caesar Stone bench tops packed full of appliances and gadgets including 2 integrated fridge-freezers, a Miele coffee machine and ducted vacuum kitchen sweep.
Reap all the benefits of a rear north-facing aspect, particularly in winter when sun streams in through a clerestory window to warm the family spaces, supplemented by under-floor heating and a gas-pebble fire.
Families, especially larger, blended and extended ones, will love all the extra space and entertaining options afforded by the formal rooms in the original home. Enjoy the next best thing to a live performance with concert-quality speakers in the lounge ceiling, while the dining room guards its own secret with trap-door access to a dry wine cellar.
Four lovely large bedrooms and three swoon-worthy bathrooms include a pampering parents’ retreat with double-shower ensuite, spacious walk-in robe and direct access to the backyard leisure zone.
This all-singing, all-dancing home also comes with full C-bus home automation, TV-monitored security and off-street parking for a fleet of cars including a double garage with access via Elm Street at the rear and a single with direct entry to the home.
