The soundtrack to the hauntingly beautiful 2000 film, In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar-wai is a permanent fixture on my iPod and is certainly worthy of being one of my favourite recommendations for our “Music to scroll by…” selections.
The movie is about beautiful people, beautiful frocks and beautiful cinematography…
The film stars Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung and some divine 60s frocks and suits as well as delicious hair and makeup, and the aforementioned haunting score, of course.
Learn more about the film, the 2nd in an “informal trilogy”, the first being the 1991 film Days of Being Wild (which I haven’t seen so can’t comment), and the 3rd being 2046 (released in 2004) which we also enjoyed. 2046 once again stars Tony Leung, but also Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Faye Wong and Takuya Kimura.
MUSIC TO SCROLL BY: My favourite track, “Yumeji’s Theme”, is about 3 minutes into the longer clip, but all of it is lovely so worth playing the whole 10 minutes, or click the second video below.
Buy the film, soundtrack or movie poster of In the Mood for Love, and film or soundtrack for 2046, or enjoy some more of the images, for both below. You will be desperate to tease your hair into a bouffant, buy a cheongsam and wander the streets of Shanghai looking melancholy.
