LUSCIOUS LOVES: Marriage equality in the US

#LoveWins - Rainbow layer cake slices

Congratulations to all our friends in the United States on the fantastic news about marriage equality. It’s about time!

Check out how these other 18 nations are doing since they introduced marriage for all. Let’s hope we get ourselves sorted in Australia soon too.

A LUSH LIFE: Gin masterclass at the Bass & Flinders Distillery, Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula

LUSCIOUS ACTIVITIES: Gin Masterclass - Bass and Flinders Distillery in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula

Luscious ones, today we did a gin masterclass at the Bass and Flinders Distillery in Red Hill, near our new home.

Our thanks to our hosts, co-owners Wayne and Janelle, and to our fellow gin lovers, Helen and Gary who shared the class with us. Thanks also to co-owner Bob for being my go-to organising guy.

We loved seeing the gin-making process and getting to create our own, and we look forward to receiving our own branded bottle – so fab!

Do bookmark Bass and Flinders Distillery if you’re on the Mornington Peninsula as it’s a really great addition to our little part of the world.

They also make vodka, limoncello and grappa, I believe, and I got to taste their version of a cognac (which has recently become my new favourite drink) which is called an aged grape spirit. More from their Ochre Spirit website.

(Remember that with cognac, like champagne, a drink cannot be named after that French region unless it is actually made there, hence “Australian sparkling wine”.)

Great to see another luscious Australian venture, and we wish the team all the very best!

See more via their website here.

OUR LITTLE LUSCIOUS WORLD: Moving home, back to Red Hill, on the Mornington Peninsula

OUR LITTLE LUSCIOUS WORLD: Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

Luscious ones, updates from me are rare at the moment, as I’ve been overwhelmed with packing and logistics (the last 3 months) and moving house (the last week), and now I’m feeling daunted by the other side: the unpacking.

We’ve said goodbye to our coastal home in Mount Martha, 15 minutes away, and have returned to the country life of Red Hill, also on the Mornington Peninsula.

It’s lovely to be back!

ROYAL BABY: It’s a girl!

NEW PRINCESS - Royal baby 2015 - It's a girl!

It’s a girl!

Congratulations to the Cambridge and Middleton families.

Here’s hoping everyone is happy and healthy, and that Prince George quickly learns to adore his baby sister.

Revisit our photos from the birth of Prince George in July 2013 and remember to vote for your favourite name in our Royal Baby Name Poll.

According to the couple’s official Twitter account, Kate was admitted to the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London at 6am.

The baby girl weighs 8lbs 3oz and was born at 8.34am on Saturday May 2, 2015. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

The family are due to spend some time at their London home, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, and then move to their country property, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk. You might also be interested in the Middleton family’s home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

More details to follow.

MUSIC TO SCROLL BY: The Theory of Everything soundtrack

We’ve been loving this year’s crop of Oscar-worthy soundtracks, especially Interstellar (Hans Zimmer), The Imitation Game (Alexandre Desplat) and The Theory of Everything (Jóhann Jóhannsson), but this track (number 17: Camping) from The Theory of Everything is my absolute favourite.

It’s only very short but it makes me tear up a little each time I hear it. I think it’s because it’s both about the music (the cello) and the sentiment (lovers uniting after years of longing).

Do take a moment to play it, as well as the rest of the soundtrack. It’s by Jóhann Jóhannsson.

LUSCIOUS NEWS: A quick update – February 2015

LUSCIOUS UPDATE: Luscious white house and garden

Hi Luscious Lifers,

A little note to let you know that I’ve been absorbed writing my four books, of which I’m particularly focussed on the novel, hoping to get them into “agent ready” shape.

Unfortunately, we’ve also found out that the house we’ve been renting is being sold, so this is very frustrating. I have enough problem concentrating at the best of times, and now we’ve got strangers coming through the house, boxes to pack, a new home to find, and all the associated expenses and inconvenience.

It’s been a great house, and the owners have been fabulous. But they need to sell and we aren’t interested in buying it, so it’s time to pack up all over again. As I said to some of my friends, it’s move number 35,998 for me, and the sleepless nights have already started as I lie awake writing lists and generally going nuts.

I look forward to the day when we can finally settle into our dream house and never, ever, ever have to pack another box again!

So between “book brain” and “moving house angst”, I’m not feeling particularly luscious. But I hope you are and that you’re still exploring all the old Luscious posts, photo galleries and items I’ve curated in the SHOP, as well as the myriad boards on Pinterest, lovely music on YouTube, and my occasional tweets and Instagram pix.

Feel free to leave me a message to let me know how you’re getting on – it’s weird not interacting with you every day. But I will be back once I learn to find some balance.

Cheers, Natasha

PS. The Luscious blog will be down for a few hours on the weekend of February 28-29, 2015 due to server updates. Thanks for your patience during this time.
