PostHeaderIcon In the mood for luscious frocks, haunting music and melancholy [sigh]

We have the soundtrack to the beautiful 2000 film, In the Mood for Love, by Wong Kar-wai on repeat on our iPod so were pleased to find that some good soul has made a compilation video on YouTube which has some of the best tracks as well as the beautiful people, beautiful frocks and beautiful cinematography. Did we mention it was beautiful?

It stars Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung and some divine 60s frocks and suits as well as delicious hair and makeup, and the haunting score, of course.

Our favourite track, "Yumeji's Theme", is about 3 minutes into the longer clip, but all of it is lovely so worth playing the whole 10 minutes, or click the second video below.

Learn more about the film, the 2nd in an "informal trilogy", the first being the 1991 film Days of Being Wild (which we haven't seen so can't comment), and the 3rd being 2046 (released in 2004) which we also enjoyed.

2046 once again stars Tony Leung, but also Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Faye Wong and Takuya Kimura.

Buy the film, soundtrack or movie poster of In the Mood for Love, and film or soundtrack for 2046, or enjoy some more of the images, for both below. You will be desperate to tease your hair into a bouffant, buy a cheongsam and wander the streets of Shanghai looking melancholy.

PostHeaderIcon Luscious is listening to...City Lounge (Volumes 1-6)

We can't do anything without music (except perhaps sleep) on in the background, and have been working on a series of music compilations which will enable our Luscious readers to enjoy as well.

For now, we've been reminded how much we love the City Lounge collections, all volumes, so figure you may want to know about them too. Here's the Amazon link which also enables you to play samplers of every track for free. And we love free!

Or you can click on each volume individually, from Volume 1 to 6:

While we're on the subject, we also love the Putamayo, Hotel Costes and Cafe del Mar collections.

PostHeaderIcon Camille O'Sullivan: Chanteuse

We try to see Camille O'Sullivan whenever we can, as the Irish-French singer combines so many luscious features: torch songs, cabaret, burlesque, delicious costumes, luscious lips, bravado and that aching I've-suffered-but-survived-and-am-stronger-than-ever beauty.

Learn more about this fabulous gal through her official website and Wikipedia. Or follow her on Twitter.

Here she is singing a very low key (for her) version of Nick Cave's "The Ship Song" via YouTube

And a more lively Camille, singing the fabulous, "In These Shoes", also via YouTube:

PostHeaderIcon Royal Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra - March 2010

The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic proudly presents a concert of Passiontide music for Palm Sunday.

This stunningly beautiful music is all inspired by the story of the Passion and will be enhanced by the fantastic acoustic of the Melbourne Recital Centre and a baroque orchestra.

Among other works, we are performing excerpts from Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and the glorious Mozart Ave Verum.

Headline soloists are Louisa Hunter-Bradley and Sally-Anne Russell.

Date: Sunday, March 28th, 2010 at 7pm
Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre

Melody Gardot

Luscious devotees will fall in love with Melody Gardot's her second album, "My One and Only Thrill" which is a beautiful, accomplished work of art.

Learn more thru Wikipedia, and her official Melody Gardot website, mySpace and Twitter pages. ABC Jazz also has some bio info and audio/videos if you want a quick and easy intro. And YouTube has everything, of course.

Luscious first heard about Melody through Mr Luscious (who has since bought us tickets to the Diana Krall/Melody Gardot/Madeleine Peyroux tour), and was fascinated by her incredible against-all-odds background, documented in this article by Bernard Zuel in The Age

We're currently addicted to Angela McCluskey (Wild Colonials) singing "Don't Explain". Download the MP3 track of "Don't Explain" or learn more about her solo work from her official website or Wikipedia. We particularly love the description of her new album as being "a record about sex, death, joy, fear, love, pain, and beauty". Excellent!
