Travelling is not always a Luscious escapade.
I just returned from a three-month trip around South East Asia. It’s fair to say I had not anticipated just how daunting the transition from a wardrobe of designer clothes and a bathroom full of L’Occitane products to a backpack and a bar of soap would be.
Traipsing around the world also means that many of our little luxuries must be left behind. That said, I have discovered a few clever tips for all you international cosmopolitans:
No shaving cream? Hair conditioner of all things is the best substitute for our delicate areas.
No jewellery cleaner? Toothpaste is a perfect jewellery cleaning proxy. Most costly silver cleaners include a mixture of baking soda and water, which is similar the formulas used in most tubes of toothpaste. It will have your bling up to Bollywood standard in no time!

No iron? Silks as we know are not the best travelling companion, but if you can’t bear to leave these loved ones behind, hang them in the bathroom while you have a hot shower. The steam will gently remove the creases leaving your silk party-ready.
No exfoliant? Pop a sugar sachet from a café in your handbag and mix it with your moisturiser for a gentle before-bed scrub.
No cosmetics for carry-on? We are all well aware of the scary airport regulations for our carry-ons and the anxiousness experienced when security ruffles through our bags.
Solution: Visit the cosmetics counter and ask for samples of your foundations, cleansers and moisturisers. Hey-presto! A cosmetics travel set with nothing exceeding the dreaded 50ml limit!

No idea which bag is yours? I am always on edge until my bag pops through the flappy-thing and onto the luggage conveyer belt. You’ll recognise your suitcase in any time zone with a bright luggage tag.
We love the “Surely it must be five o’clock somewhere” luggage tag from www.flight001.com.
